Special Conditions

Because of our intimate size advance reservations are recommended, even though walk-ins are more than welcome. For some holidays and weekends, there is a two night minimum. All guests must be at least 18 years of age. The maximum occupancy is two people per room unless discussed otherwise. An additional $50.00 per person will charged.


The H. S. Clay House is a wonderful destination for a wide variety of events. However, it is not appropriate for events resulting in noisy and reckless behavior. Behaviors deemed as disrespectful to the Innkeepers or to other guests will result in a request to leave. To insure that all guests enjoy their stay, we reserve the right to refuse guests because of inappropriate behavior or conditions. FORFEITURE OF DEPOSIT WILL NOT OCCUR.

Arrival and Departure

As when visiting old friends, your arrival to our home is simple and carefree. You will be warmly welcomed and escorted to your room. No formal registration is required as we will have taken care of all business in advance. We request arrival between 4 p. m. and 6 p. m. If you need to check in at another time, please let us know so that we can make special arrangements. In order to prepare your room for the next day’s arrivals, we request your departure by 11 a. m. Early check-in and late check-out are not available.

Children and Pets

Because our guests come to relax in peace and serenity of the Bed and Breakfast and surrounding area, children and pets are not suitable as guests.


Due to the historic nature of the H. S. Clay House, it is a non-smoking environment.

Deposit and Payment

A deposit of each night’s stay is required to confirm your reservations. We regret that reservations not confirmed by deposit within the seven day time period will be released to make room for others. Should it be necessary for you to depart earlier than your confirmed date, you will be responsible for the full amount of the intended stay.


Because of our small size, cancellations affect us significantly. Therefore, we adhere to a very strict cancellation policy.

Cancellations made at least 14 days prior will result in full refund less $35.00 handling fee. However, cancellations made within 14 days of your confirmed arrival date will result in a forfeiture of your deposit. THIS CANCELLATION POLICY DOES NOT INCLUDE SPECIAL EVENTS AND THEIR DEPOSITS. GROUP RESERVATIONS, OCTOBER, AND HOLIDAY WEEKENDS REQUIRE ONE MONTH’S CANCELLATION FOR A FULL REFUND LESS A $35.00 HANDLING FEE.
